ABI1 forms income/mortgage protection

Told today that the job centres will not issue these anymore after the end of this month and the insurance companies would have to find another way to assess unemployment claims. They have been informed and told to write to all claimants asap. Which begs the questions.....has anyone heard from thier income protection insurers and curious as to why job centres have stopped supplying and stamping forms?

  • Hi
I got a letter from Aviva this morning - asking me to complete a very similar form to that which the job centre were filling in before. Just hope this doesn't impact on the time it takes to pay out at the start of April! Bet its because of all the cut backs they are making within the job centre's.

    Hello,

I have been unemployed now for 4 months since i was wade redundant and i have a few debts that are covered with PP.

I have been getting an ABi1 form stamped every month at JCP but i have been notified that this will be stopping and i have received a new form from my mortgage provider.

On the new form it is similar to the ABi1, i need to keep a record of my jobsearch and jobs i have applied for but there is a section in bold saying important....."i must apply for at least 3 jobs each month and provide details dates and copies of the application form"

I would have no problem with this if there were plenty of jobs out there to apply for.

Every day i search online for a job, ask friends and family ask my previous employer if my old workplace has picked up yet and am doing some further education.

I have applied for a few jobs online and have only got one reply back off one employer, sometimes there is just nothing there that i can apply for because i don't have the qualification or the job descriptions say experience or skills is essential.

I am worried that my PP will get delayed because i can't show proof of everything i do to search for work?

Does this mean i will be forced to apply for jobs that i am not skilled for just to fill in this form?

    Thanks for any info.
  • I used to have to send my insurance company proof I’d applied for jobs (such as the confirmation emails you get from places like Reed), if there wasn’t anything suitable I’d apply for anything to meet their criteria.

I'd rather be working and paying my bills rather than go through all this hassle every month, you take out PP for peace of mind if you loose your job and end up with all this trying to convince the insurance company you are not sitting on your a$$ all day.
  • Yep, me too – It wasn’t very often there wasn’t 3 jobs to apply to in a month, but it was annoying when there wasn’t! Plus, it had to be 3 jobs with proof of application, argh!
  • I am also with Aviva and recently made redundant. having looked through their new process i wonder if i have an obligation to have to provide this information? also, they ask for applications and response letters to be sent each month. i have no printer and they have no email facility which i think is not very forward thinking of them!
  • I am in the process of trying to claim on my MPPI, having been made redundant at the end of March.

I've just received a letter from Iprotect (would not recommend them btw, they have been the most stressful single thing about my redundancy process) with 5 bullet points of information that I need to provide each month to prove that I am worthy of being paid.

Can't they just trust the claimant, after all, we need to go through this humiliating routine with the Jobcentre every week? I feel a bit like a criminal rather than a customer who has PAID for this service. And, like someone else has said, there is no way that I'll find 3 jobs to apply for each month in my field. At least the jobcentre only ask for evidence that you have looked, not applied for anything.

My hope is that they will quickly realise that people can't apply for 3 jobs a month and bring their criteria down a notch.

I'm getting married in 7 weeks' time and only need to claim until I'm back from honeymoon - after that I'll take anything and the first thing I'll be doing is cancelling my MPPI. Anyone who thinks these policies give you peace of mind, think again.
  • For any iProtect customers out there who are in the same position as me, this might be useful to know.

I have just phoned iProtect for clarification of what evidence they need each month in order to claim the MPPI. Their form was confusing, it said they need evidence of three applications but the accompanying letter stated that 3 communications was all that was needed.

The adviser told me that 3 communications were needed but not necessarily applications, even though the form states 'applications'. So things like speculatively sending out your CV and registering with agencies will count towards those 3 pieces of evidence. This is quite a relief for me because I'll be lucky to find one job a month to apply for in my specialised field.

I thought you had to apply for three jobs a week. THree jobs a month seems very reasonable to me. If there aren't jobs in field of work then you have to broaden the criteria somehow. Apply further afield or broader job type. Much easier than not doing it and not getting the mortgage paid.
