What do I do?

Well then, I've just gone through my kitchen cupboards,

1, to clear them out and
2, to save a bit of money if there's owt lurking there that I can cook and save on shopping.

I have found loads of caster, demarara and brown sugar, loads of biscuits (ood but unopened), muesli and kids cereals (again ood but unopened).

As long as I can get them cooked up in something nice the kids will eat them without questioning the ood stuff. If theres the remote chance that one (a particular one) sees the ood stuff I have no chance!

Where am I best looking or what am I best doing with all this stuff other than bin it?

Answers on a postcard please.

Can your transfer into jars so no sell by dates can be seen?

I found a useful recipe in Good Housekeeping recenly that uses rice crispies to make 'breadcrumbs' for fish. We tried it and it was lovely - and simple to make. Basically, you crush the crispies (either with rolling pin or food processor) and season. It's supposed to be mixed with parmesan but we didn't have any so I didn't. Then it's just used like breadcrumbs (dip fish in flour, egg then the crispies) and fry. It was lovely and crunchy and a good way to use up not very nice value rice crispies.

PS We tried it with chicken too and it was fine although not as succulent as the fish.

rocky road? rice crispie cake (or whatever the cereal is) but with chunks of biscuit?
do you do puddings? you could crush the biscuits down and make a cheescake base to eat with yoghurt or ice-cream.

I have watched too much Dr Who with DS!! :rotfl:

That said, if I were in your situation, and actually stuck a label with the word 'ood' on the stuff, DS wouldn't be able to get enough of 'ood food'!

On a serious note (especially if you and yours are not Dr Who fans, or fans of the creatures known as the Ood :o), I'm all for taking the stuff out of the boring, date-marked, packet and putting it into nice tins, pretty storage jars etc.

My family have an uncanny ability to sense that food in date-marked packets is going to have a 'funny taste', but have never noticed any 'funny taste' with the food I've stored in jars etc...

This sounds like some chicken burgers I used to buy (you can probably still get them, I think I've seen them recently-ish but not bought any in years) that have a coating that reminds me of rice crispies! Theirs is probably mixed with a bit of batter or something but they were my favourites when I was younger!
  • The foods you have described are not out of date they are just past their best-before dates. As you and I know what the difference is I suggest you do as others have recommended and decant them into containers.

You sound like you've got a fair bit of sugar there so I reckon you should get baking at the weekend. Twinks HobNobs are a guaranteed crowd-pleaser

sugar never goes 'off' so you probably won't find a 'use by' date on them.
