Did you do the choose to refuse?
It will be active within a couple of days.
You dial 1471 and it tells you what to do - you can manually input the numbers you wish to barr, or choose to barr the last number that phoned you.0 -
Do I have to answer the call to barr it?0
-
No, nothing like that!
Make a note of the number - either on caller display, or by dialling 1471 after the call - and the instructions on the line will tell you what to do next.
I did this a couple of months back. You can only block 10 numbers at a time.
I also have a block on with-held numbers since they annoy me no end !0 -

So, what happens with this then. If I block a number and that number call me are they are aware it is blocked or do they get a different tone/message etc. What are the costs of doing this?0 -
I think they get a message that says something like "you are not permitted to telephone this number"
I think it is about £3 per month, so it is not cheap - but if you are pestered by a couple of people it might be worth paying for it for a couple of months so that they get the message.0 -

I would pay £30 a month if it had the facility to let me record my own message for those callers;)0 -
A cheaper option may be caller-ID, then you just choose not to pick up the phone to numbers you don't want to speak to.
Be careful with blocking all withheld numbers, I have a friend who is a GP who is sometimes on-call from home. She obviously withholds her number and has often been barred from speaking to patients.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
