Debt collection notice help

Hi
My gf's sister is in alot of debt and is going through the stages of bankrupcy.
She doesn't live at our address and has never done so.
Today we received a rather unpleasent letter address to my gf's sister stating that she owes them £4175 that needs to be paid straight away.
Of course I rang the company and stated that she has never lived here. They said that they did a check via experian and its come up with this address.
My questions which hopefully someone could help me with are:
Will this affect our credit rating at all?
Why did experian come up with our address as we have never received any other post for the sister.
If she used our address surely we would of received credit cards and letters etc?
Your help with this matter would be extremly helpful as i'm just about to go round to her house and have a shouting match. If she has used my address I won't be happy at all.
Thanks in advance

This should NOT affect your credit rating as this is based on individuals - not addresses.
You should pass this letter to your gf's sister and she should include the debt in her bankruptcy.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Thanks rog2, do you think experian would hand out our details as its possible that she hasn't contacted the company she owes money to? would they give out over addresses at an attempt to find her?

It should not affect your credit rating as you are not financially linked to her, in the old days it could have done but now the match is on the name.
Most likely they have traced a possible match based on the fact that she and your GF used to live together and have the same surname (credit checks highlight linked addresses). Or if the first names begin with the same letter it could have highlighted your address on some applications, confusing your GF and her sister.
You would have received some mail if she used your address, she could not have redirected it as that goes by surname and would therefore redirect your GF's mail too.
