Question about signing off JSA to accept a temporary job?

Hi, not sure if this is the right section but any way here goes.
I've been signing on for 6 months after my employer of 6 years went bust last year.
I've been offered a full time but temporary role doing the 2011 Census. Fine with that as it pays more then JSA and it's a chance to actually earn a decent months wage. The Census only lasts about a max of 2 months though...
Anyway I just want to know what happens when this temporary role ends. Am I allowed to sign back on to JSA again starting from stage 1? Or would I have to take a period of time out as I would probably be signing on 6-8 weeks after signing off?
Just want to see how accepting this job would affect me in the long run.
Cheers for any help.
Sean.

Why don't you ask at the jobcentre, but i can only assume you will be able to sign on again.0

You might have to have the 5 day "gap" at the end, but that is not as bad as having JSA removed for declining a job, and as its a full hours census role you'd still be better off for doing it."Every single person has at least one secret that would break your heart. I haven't asked at the job centre yet because if I say that I've been offered a job, as i'm now into stage 3 it would mean that I would have to take the job.
The bloke I deal with as well is pretty full on as well, nothing gets by him. If I was to say to him 'so theoretically speaking if I had been offered a job, but it only lasts for 6 weeks, would I be able to sign on the moment that ends......'.
He would see right through me in a second lol.0 -

Yeah that's what i'm thinking.
5 day gap? Does that mean you simply can't sign on for the first 5 days after your job ends?
Sounds fine if that's all I would have to wait.0 -

Why not just ring the 0845 number, this is a centralised network and they will be able to advise you.
Plus when signing on again you'll be put back onto stage 3 too.0 -
I had about 3 months of work over Christmas after being on JSA for about 4-5 months. When I finished I did a rapid reclaim and they actually started a new claim for me as I had been in work a "significant amount of time". This surprised me.
As a temporary role you should have no problems at all signing on again. The problems would come if it was a permanent role which you either left of your own accord or were sacked for misconduct or something.0 -
Just one other thing though - I'm sure you won't want to but leaving the job before it comes to it's natural end is not allowed (by the JCP for JSA purposes).
In the normal course of events though, you will "simply" make a claim for JSA when the contract ends - it should be a simple enough process for them to resurrect your claim; main issues with this are usually associated with any accompanying Housing Benefit.0 -
You should be able to start claiming again straight away from when the temporary contract finishes - if it's less then 12 weeks you can put in a rapid reclaim so they use all the same details and it gets processed a lot faster. If you're on Housing Benefit as well though you sometimes have to reclaim for that again separately.0

You can make a claim under 'rapid reclaim' procedures only if it within 12 weeks of the date your last claim ended AND there have been no changes in your circumstances ie address, income, people who live with you and savings. Otherwise its just a new claim. You can and should claim straight away from the day after your job ends.
GotToChange-not quite correct, if you leave a job 'without good cause' you MAY be sanctioned but you ARE allowed to make a claim-the reason why you left will be looked into as a separate issue. Any sanction will only last until the job would have ended anyway.
If you found the job yourself (as opposed to someone at JC 'matching' you to the vacancy)-there is no penalty for refusing or failing to apply/accept it0 -
They can only make you take the job if you agreed to temporary work on your job seekers agreement.
You will rapid reclaim within 12 weeks if circs still the same and have the usual 3 waiting days. if the job is less than 24 hours per week then again they cant make you take it which is something not many jobcentre staff are aware off.
If its just the reclaiming that worries you dont be and as you said you will be better off
Good Luck0
