You say there are 4 adults living in the house, do the other two contribute? Are they grown up children?

Also, haircuts is a lot of money each month which you can't affor right now, how about looking to use local colleges for the meantime?

Sorry, I messed up - there are two adults and two children who are both at school.

We don't spend 85 per month, but I tried to average up the cost of birthdays, christmas and then divided by 12 months. I'd be interested to know what other people spend on birthdays/christmas if it's much less than 1000 overall?

Hair - fair comment, however, that is my only luxury - I don't drink or smoke or go out and the clothes allowance may aswell be zero!

With most HP agreements you have to have made so many payments (maybe 25% or 50%) and you can often hand the car back to the finance company and walk away. It doesn't have too bad an effect on your credit rating as I've done it and went on to buy another car (had a nightmare car, got fed up of fixing it in the end!).

Word of warning though - the finance company won't make it easy, I had to drive the car from Liverpool to their headquarters in Brighton and it had to be in good condition (taking into account wear and tear).

Go dig out your agreement ;)

If you end up taking over the family finances you will have to give him some money to fritter away or I think he would go mad!!

Or use a pudding basin as a guide for hair trimming.
