  • Is it me or can you not buy any decent sized loose jacket potatoes anymore? They all seem to be really small and if you buy a bag of them your lucky if you get one nice sized one!

You can get them, last year I bought a huge sack from makro (may have been 25kg?) but although they were HUGE the biggest of them were disease ridden - looked fine on the outside but were hollow and brownish at the core. Maybe the weather last year affected the crop. Plus the supermarkets money grabbing, I expect to see any day now that the old fashioned jackets are rebranded as supersize and sold at an even HIGHER premium than at present for jacket pots.
Remember when the sizes were not sorted so you got a mix? That was before they realised they could make us pay more for bigger easier to peel ones.
If anyone remembers spud-u-like - they used to advertise a 12oz jacket. Miss them, as a student my treat was jacket potato and cheese from them.

grrrr I am so jealous, there are two farm shops not far away but they see themselves as tourist destinations and charge 10 times as much as the supermarkets for stuff they haven't even produced. Wish I had a proper farm shop near me (East Dorset)
