Direct Legal and Collections Problems

Hi,
Im having a few problems with these people.
I had a car loan with Yes Car Credit from 2005. I had difficulties with paying the loan when i lost my job. In 2006 they took the vehicle back which i asked them to do and i agreed a reduced settlement with them.
I paid £366 on 01/11/2006. to them then a further £1,000 on 15/01/2007. I was told this had settled the account and no further payments were neccessary. Now DLC have contacted me saying i owe £2500 for the rest of the account. In my naivity i havent got the letter from yes car credit agreeing the debt was now closed and they have now gone out of business. DLC refuse to believe the debt was settled and this is hanging around my credit file and i cant get rid of it and them. I have been e-mailing them about this and there latest ploy is to offer me a reduced settlement which i think is a cheek.
im getting pretty stressed about this and could do with some advice
thanks
Dave

Hi Dave I only just noticed your thread don't know if you have sorted this yet? You could ask direct auto finance for a copy of the letter or failing that do a S.A.R request to them I'm sure there will be a template on here it will cost £10 but you will get all the info they hold about you (D.A.F are basically yes car credit) I'm at logger heads with dlc myself but I have about 9 weeks until my alleged debt is statute barred! Any correspondence you have with any of them should be in writing only and always state in the letters that you do not acknowledge any debt to them or any other company this is important as you could restart the clock in terms of it becoming statute barred (6 years from last payment or written acknowledgement in England and wales 5 years in Scotland) after that time they cannot take legal action to recover any 'debts' and it's illegal for them to say that they can. Hope this has helped if you haven't managed to sort it yet!!!
