Is this a scam?

Right - I'm sure this isn't in the right place but I couldn't fathom where to put it so mods please move if necessary.

I'm pretty sure that I am being targeted by a scam but just wanted to ask you savvy MSEs for an opinion.

I recieved a call a couple of weeks ago from a local company saying that I had been awarded a weeks self catering holiday in Europe plus 2 return flights etc. I told them that I'd not entered any comps so was very sceptical. They said it's not a prize it's an award, and the purpose is that they have been mainly working within the holiday trade and now want to work with the public, therefore they are awarding people in the area hols so that they may give them word of mouth publicity.

Anyway the letter arrived and we have to go to their offices and listen to a 90 min presentation of what they have available. Also there is a £45 admin fee per person too.

Now am I right to this this has SCAM written all over it of am I being cynical? Alarm bells ring over the presentation and also the admin fee too. But I think maybe they sucker people because £45 is cheap for 7 nights s/c and flights of course?

Well known scam I'm sorry to say. Steer well clear - they bully even very strong willed people into timeshares. :(

  • Hi thanks for the replies - I was totally convinced that it was a scam too but just wanted to get more opinions in case I was being too cynical - part of me is tempted to go along to see what thay say as I'm interested in how they will try to pressurise us but then I have better things to do with my time on a Sunday!
