I think that's a lovely idea
I'd receive them gratefully;) People might feel that they're expected to reciprocate though.
The only thing that annoys me about Americans is when they spell words like neighbourhood and labouring wrong
Sorry, couldn't resist:)0 -
It's a lovely idea - why shouldn't you bring nice American customs to your neck of the woods? Goodness knows we could do with some pleasantness and neighbourliness this side of the pond.
I think we live in a multi-cultural society, and sharing the best bits of other cultures, particularly when they are cookie shaped:D has got to be a good thing.
You are more than welcome to donate excess cookies in my direction - I love cookies:D
Welcome to the UK, by the way.0 -
Well, perhaps it's too pushy? While the thing you all mention is the guilt over not having reciprocated, perhaps there's more to it? Perhaps this is forcing an intimacy that is unwarranted just because we happen to live on the same row of cottages?
It may be better to limit to people I'm actually on friendly terms with, and leave the neighbors I rarely even see to wave at out of it?:beer:0 -
Mmmm cookies...(said in a Homer Simpson voice)0

If my neighbours did I would worry there was arsenic in them. But then not everybody has my neighbours luckily for you.0

What a nice thing to do, you'd definitely be welcome at my house! I think it's a lovely gesture and definitely a good way to introduce yourself, especially in a small community.
And as for baby names, you can name your child whatever you wish. OH and I have considered using his surname as a middle name instead of double-barrelling, among other ideas that are probably unpopular with some!
Edit: Perhaps a couple of your neighbours wouldn't be thrilled or see it as a nice gesture, but I would think that's worth it, if two, or even just one appreciates it. It could also be a good way or working out who might be your kind of people, and who may not. You can't please all of the people, all of the time.0 -

I think it may depend on how often you do it!! I mean, if you do it once to introduce yourself, then that can hardly be called "pushy".
On the other hand, if you knock on the door with a gift every week then people may wonder what you are after!0 -
to paraphrase MrBEs sig:
"If you bake someone cakes and they never speak to you again - it was probably worth it":D
:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood :dance:0 -
Can I come live next door to you BrandNewDay?0

We had mince pies handed to us by a group of people in the street once.It was from their church but it felt very strange to accept gifts from a stranger and know you will never give anything in return.
My neighbour who is very elderly ,will not accept anything from anyone unless she thinks it will help them. We took round shortbreads we had been making once and I had to say we didnt have room as we had made too many for the biscuit tin :P0
