Ok thanks for looking in,hopefully i've posted in the right place.
About 4 weeks ago we had a visit from jacobs bailiffs with a notice to remove goods, they went away because i refused them entry and a week later we got a letter from them.We got in touch with the cab about it because there dealing with our debt problems and on the verge of going bankrupt. They informed us to sit tight and do nowt, don't let them in ect. They've just been back to collect nearly £500 for council tax whats owed and they want it in full if not they take my car i've got till tea time on thursday to pay this money. Now i've just rang head office at jacobs to try and sort this out and see if i can pay so much a week and was told no,if i or the cab had rang them after there first visit they would have made a arrangment but because we never they want it in full.
So i think i was giving bad information from the cab,i now find myself in this mess. Can anyone give me any advice what i could do to try and stop them taking my car.I've not got the money to pay them,i can't afford for them to take the car because i need it to get to work.If they take the car i'm knackered,so what can i do,i've rang cab but the women dealing with us is off today which doesn't help us at all.
So please can someone suggest what we should do,thanks in advance steve

Sorry to hear about your predicament.
I was just thingking that personally I'd move the car!! if its not there how can they take it? Have they said about taking anything else?
get back to CAB and ask if money advice worker will be in tomorrow. If not explain its urgent and you need urgent Money advice now. another caseworker may be able to pick it up - your case notes will always be there.
Jacobs may not deal with you personally but may well deal with the CAB - thats oftent he case as they think they can bully you into paying up.
good luck - hopefully those with more expereince of this can help you

Agree with previous poster. Have you got a friend with a garage? Otherwise leave it a good mile or so away from where it usually is. Could you cover it with one of those specially designed car covers so the registration number isn't showing?
In the long term tho' you'll need to come to some arrangement or lose the car.CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420 -

Ok after a few frantic phone calls this afternoon i've got us some breathing space for the time being.I rang the local council and explained stuff to them that the cab are dealing with it and i was informed by them to sit tight ect. They rang me back 30 mins later to tell me they've been in contact with jacobs and have told them to hold off calling on me again.Cab are now sending the council a financal statement ect for them to look at and they'll take it from there, hopefully they'll take the debt back or even scap it.The reason i say scrap it is because a lass i no use to work for another council in that department and she told me that they take you to court for the money,it's then sent to the bailiffs and if they can't get the money ect they then send it back to the council who then try and collect it if they can't they scrap the debt.So at least i've got a couple of weeks to try and sort this out in the mean time.
Just one more thing where due in court next week for another council tax,it's from well over a year ago and from our old house. Now should i attend this court case, take my financal statement with me and explain to the judge what where living like at the moment and hopfully he decides we've no money to pay stuff and declares me bankrupt and saves me the 400 notes0 -
Sorry to rain on your parade but believe me, they will not scrap the debt - they have 12 years in which to collect it...are you working? If so they may choose to attach your earnings. They will not declare you bankrupt for council tax debt.
Sorry if this freaks you out - this is the one you CAN go to jail for. ATTEND THE HEARING with a reasonable proposal to pay it off.... most councils want to collect the money and will listen to an srguement for an arrangement to pay.
I have no sympathy with this debt, it is the one we all have to pay and you know it.... just bite the bullet and sort it out or they will do it for you and you WILL lose your car or your liberty - it's extreme but you have to remember that they have the power to do this.
Sorry if this seems tough, that is the way it is.
