I am sure this has been asked before but I cannot find it... can I freeze cream ? and how long for and just in the carton it comes in ?... also semi-skimmed milk? and if so do I have to open the plastic container and pour a little away (swells when frozen?) Butter? and I have tried freezing cheese before but it comes out all crumbly which if fine to cook with but not for slicing :rotfl: so is there a similar cheese to cheddar that doesn't crumble when defrosted......
Just thought it would be a good idea to start freezing a few things so as to cut down on christmas food shopping....

You can freeze butter and milk but not sure about cream; why not try with the smallest pot you can find? I don't know about milk bottles but I do know that the plastic containers you get in supermarkets have a little gap so you could probably just put them straight into the freezer....might want to pour a bit out to be on the safe side though!0

Hi tanith,
You can freeze whipping or double cream providing you whip them before freezing. Single cream doesn't freeze well.

Yes, I usually buy cream when it's reduced, whip it and then put it back into the plastic carton it came in to freeze. You'd think, once whipped it wouldn't fit, but it does.

I always freeze my semi skimmed milk, straight out of the shopping bag and into the freezer. No need to drain a bit out.
What about freezing some stuffing balls, saves faffing about on the day and freezing your yorkshire puddings.Infact you could freeze portions of the whole dinner and just cook your meat on the morning?
I also freeze butter,marg,cheese with no problems.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0 -

Last year I froze the following before Christmas:
Delia's parmesan parsnips
bacon wrapped sausages
HM stuffing balls
cranberry sauce
HM steamed christmas pudding
HM cinnamon ice cream
According to Delia, you can also freeze bread sauce and reheat but not tried it myself yet - will do this year.0
