No kitchen, meal ideas please?!?!?

We are getting a new kitchen in 2weeks
and so will have no cooker for at least a week if not longer
I will have use of a microwave, toaster, steamer and kettle! I was considering getting a slow cooker as there is one for only £12 in Tesco. I was going to make some things in advance and freeze them so they could just be defrosted and then reheated in the microwave but any suggestions on meal ideas would be greatly appreciated. Husband happy to eat takeaway every night but I would like to avoid spending a lot of money doing that, maybe once or twice is ok.

Just get batch-cooking and make a load of one-pot meals. Even if you've made pasta bakes or shepherds pies fro instance you could pop veg in the micro for a couple of mins while the main course is resting.0

You dont have to boil cous cous-let it soak for about ten mins.0

Hi sassysez,
If you have a freezer I would batch cook as much as you can now so that it can be easily reheated in the microwave when the kitchen is out of action.

I'm in my second week of no kitchen and like you have mw, steamer etc., plus a slow cooker. I did lots of batch cooking beforehand so have a freezer full of meat pies etc, and am just making a steak casserole in the sc - enough there for at least 2 meals for a family. Only problem is the kitchen fitters are drooling and want to invite themselves to dinner
. For quick meals make up a batch of savoury mince and it can be adapted for bol, chili con carne, jacket potato topping, shepherds pie filling and so on. Some people don't like veg done in the mw, warm salads make a good alternative towards your 5-a-day.
I'm also getting quite adept at washing up in the bathroom!0 -
.I'm also getting quite adept at washing up in the bathroom!
I did this years ago as then b/f worked away M to F so the kitchen took ages to do, although it took on an amazing spurt when I made him washup all weekend in the bath
agree with others batch cooking and re-heating will be simplest route, but a slow cooker is always handy. do chicken casseroles and serve on cous cous which just needs a measuring jug and boiling water, suet puddings can be steamed in a s/c too.
I did a casserole in my s/c the other day and put sliced potatoes on the bottom so that it was a meal in one - really lovely to just serve up when I got home.
although its not the weather yet you could try the odd bbq, my friend does a whole chicken in hers which is a lovely twist on a sunday roast.0 -
I think that's one of the parts I'm not looking forward to. Happy to wash dishes, teeth, bodies etc in the bathroom but don't like the idea of using the water from the bathroom in cooking, juices etc so forgive me for being a snob but will probably purchase cheap bottled water to use

Thanks to pink-winged as well for the thread links, will definitely have a look :T0
