and you are right, but only if you are happy to be locked into the kindle format which means buying at over inflated prices from Amazon only (not Waterstones, WHSmith, Diesel Ebooks, Kobo etc).
If that suits you, then it's fine. It's also the reason Amazon can sell it much cheaper than its competitors (like for like copmpetitors) as they know they are guaranteed book sales forever more as a result of that sale (much the same as a mobile operator can give you a phone for free due to the money they make from the contract.
The Sony option gives it's users the freedom to chose who and where they purchase their ebooks from, allowing you to save much more than the device costs over time when you compare the prices to Amazon. (Don't get me wrong, some times Amazon is cheaper, but often not!)
and finally, perhaps the biggest downside to Kindle is Amazons ability to delete books you paid for and downloaded from your library without your consent: LINK. That alone made my mind up for me.
That said, I have used Kindle and do actually consider it the better machine by a whisker. It's the baggage that comes with the Kindle that makes the Sony devices a winner IMO.
I own the version in the ebay listing that has been put up in price looking at the link! - but think the PRS650 from Play for £129.99 is the better value given the price increase since the opening post0 -
I love my kindle and am able to download library books using calibre. I also like the fact that I can earn amazon vouchers on research sites to buy more books.0

The difference is that you are able to download books/access the internet from anywhere with the 3G version, Amazon pay for the connection. So this it ideal if you travel often, or are away from home a lot (for work, for example). With the Wifi version, you need to be in a wifi area, ie: at home if you have wireless internet, or in places that offer free wifi.0 -

You explained this much easier than the website thanks:beer: Can I just ask one more thing? Can you surf the internet with the 3g one or is it just used as an e reader?0 -
You can go on the internet with both versions (again, only within a Wifi area if you have the Wifi only version), but I've read that it's quite "clunky", slow and not easy to navigate (maybe someone will correct me on this?). Fine for the occasional browsing I would guess! I don't actually have one myself, but have been reading up on them because I'm after one too.0
