Last spring i was doing part time work for my local community college, i received my last payment in june. In february of this year they sent me an invoice asking me to repay them as they overpaid me which i had not realised. Do i have to repay them as i had no contract with the employer (Devon County Council) and its over 6 months since they paid me!
Thanks

Hi have a look here
http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/your_money/employment/faq_index_employment/faq_employment_overpayment_of_wages.htm
you must have had a contract be it with the college or the organisation who paid your wages as you did something for them and got payment in return so that's a contract even though its not written down.
You could argue that its wasn't reasonable for you to know there was an overpayment and you have no means to pay it back. If they insist, you may have pay by instalments. They could if they wished go to the small claims court and ask for a CCJ against you.The Cabbage

You must have been told how much you were going to be paid before you started, if they have paid you more than this then yes,
you have to pay it back, They have 6 years to reclaim this money.
Pay up or it could could come back and bite you in the bum big time.
Ask them if you can pay them in installments.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
