Default on credit report question? Pls Help

Hi
I have a default on a mail order company, defaulted in 2007. At the time I had a dispute with them as it was for items that I had returned but they claim they never received them. In the end I agreed to pay the balance of £72.00 so I didn't keep getting letters asking for the money. Do you think I will be able to get the default removed as it was 4 years ago and the amount was small. Does anyone have a polite template letter asking for defaults to be removed?

I also have 3 late payments from O2, at the time my contract had ended so I agreed to pay £30.00 a month for 3 months (only owed £90.00 due to honeymoon in Egypt and not realising the charges from there). Anyway i checked experian and it now shows 4 late payments which I have talked to them about and they said there had been a mistake as it should only be 3! Does anyone know how long late payments stay on the credit report for? I was told 6 years, i know this is true for defaults but surely not late payments? Again is there anything I can do to have this removed? These are the only 2 things on my report, the rest is all ok! Thanks

I politely emailed British Gas about a default I had on my account, the bill was disputed at the time, no one ever came back to me with a solution! I asked if, since this was a query, would the remove it? They did as soon as I payed the reduced amount (finally got my answer!)

Can't help with the late payment completely, but I'd imagine it would be 6 years, I'm sure someone else can advise better than me though.

Ok Thanks for the info. My default was paid very quickly in 2007 and the 02 bill was paid within 3 months of them contacting me. I think it very unfair for the late payments to be on the report for 6 years, i did read somewhere it stays for 36 months so not sure which is right? Well done on the British Gas default. I think I would be better off having a balance to still pay cos I could at least ask for it to be removed once final payment had been made.

It is very rare to have a default removed.

Did you pay the £72 after the default was put on, if so by paying the £72 you have admitted owing it so your chances are very remote i would imagine.

Cant help with the late payments but I presume they stay on there for 6 years too.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Hi, I just had a default removed by HSBC (thread is quite near the top of 1st page) however I know this is very very rare.

Other than that they stay there for 6 years as McKneff says.

So was the £90 bill your last bill with o2 and then they agreed to the £30/month payments? With regards the late payments, Experian reports seem to show payments going back 36 months, but I'm sure Equifax goes back further. Doubt there's anyhting you can do to get them to remove the late payments though.
Here to offer help and advice, and maybe take a little in return.

Do you have any copy letters or emails you sent querying the bill that was defaulted? I had given up with phone calls as I started getting letters from debt agency's for £150 for one week's gas supply, I queried the cost as I changed supplier the day I moved in, and took a week to go through. I also received the last occupiers bill, funnily enough, for £150, so I queried it, after no response, I emailed, and emailed, I emailed customer services this year as I had checked my credit report and saw the default, with emails of my query, and basically said it shouldn't be a default as I had a query on the bill, which was never resolved. That's the only reason I got it taken off I reckon. It is definately worth a try though!
