Is it too early?

I've asked this on the Sept 2012 brides page but just though i'd see what the rest of you ladies think:D
Do you think it's too early to go try dresses on? As i'm marrying abroad I need a destination dress & i'm finding it hard to find stockists. I rung 10 shops on Sat that according to the Maggie & Dessy Sandels website stocked their destination dresses but they all said they don't:( One shop I spoke to said they had a few styles in that may be suitable but when I said it was Sept 2012 I was getting married they said I should not start looking & trying until this Sept. Bearing in mind when I have found a shop that have any design at all they only seem to carry 2 or 3 so I feel it may take a while to find my prefect dress. Is it too early:idea:

Hi, I would say it's never too early to start thinking about the sort of thing you'd like, but I wouldn't start trying on till Sept - if you look too early you might think you've found "the one" and then spend the next 18 months having "the wobbles" - especially when the new season stuff starts coming in! xSome people create their own storms....then get upset when it rains!0

Hi Fawny - I'd say it's never too early to be looking and trying dresses on. It's only too early if you find one you like, buy it and then don't stop looking or are likely to change your mind! I bought mine about 14 months before the wedding but I stopped looking and was totally happy with the one I bought (also a 'destination' dress).
Enjoy! If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.0 -
Its NEVER too early! My best friend used to take me around the wedding shops when we were at college and we would pretend we were getting married just so we could try the dresses on. by doing this we both have a better idea of what dresses suit us and what didnt... i always wanted a slimline dress but with my figure it just doesnt work so i know to get a princess dress which looked beautiful.
I would reccomend trying a few on but dont look at them for THE DRESS just try them on to see what suits you... you never know you just might find THE ONE and have a little fun doing it

I would say go try some on to get an idea of what you want but don't buy a dress just yet - there will be several new seasons in between now and then and you might find something amazing in the future and regret spending the money so early! Plus they do say don't buy a dress too early because lots of people go on a diet/put weight on etc.0

Thanks everyone for the advise. I've found a shop that has five in & the lady on the phone was really helpful, so going to go have a look at the weekend & get the prices:D I can then see if they are in the price range my parents were thinking when they said they would buy the dress:o
Joho - what dress did you get? or is it a secret?Marrying the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :j0 -
Hi,
I would say it's not too early. I was panicking that I hadn't got mine . Are you buying new ? If you are considering a second hand dress the earlier the better as you will have lots of time to find a bargain, also there will be sales between now and then so if you know what you want you may well find it reduced (if it is not current season)
Good Luck and enjoy !0 -
I bought mine in January sales for April next year

Never too early. Especially if your looking for a bargain.:DStolen the OH's account so it's Jenna - not Neil:D0 -
Nooo, I'm not getting married till December next year and I've already got my dress! I fell in love with it online and on me and got a sample discount, so it seemed like fate!0
