flat rate job expenses on tax code change?

i received my PAYE coding notice for 2011-12 and theyve given me a £60 Flat Rate Job Expenses which entitles me to get an extra £60 on top of my personal allowance?

How on earth did i get this, and what is it?? has anyone else heard of it?! not that im complaining at all, just that i have never seen this before, I dont work as a odd job man or anything, i work in an office so dont get what it is!!

Any advice , as always, will be much appreciated!!

Thanks

    There's a whole raft of them :-

If you've been in the job a while - haven't had the allowance before and don't clearly fit on the list - worth querying. But check with your colleagues first

It doesn't make an enormous difference (£60 @ 20% = £12 per annum tax saving) ..... but best to sort it. Wearing a 'uniform' / anything with a logo - you need to launder is the normal one for that sort of value
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
