Newcastle: Eating out near O2 Acadamy
Options
My DH and I are taking my daughter and a couple of her friends to the O2 Acadamy for a concert this week. It's too far away for us to drop them off, go home and pick them up again so we thought we'd have a meal while we're waiting. Could anyone recommend a decent place to eat nearby, possibly a nice pub so we can sit for a while afterwards? I don't want to be too far away as they're only 15/16 and I worry for England!

The gate is just up the road from the Academy - http://www.thegatenewcastle.co.uk/
Lots of different restaurants and bars in one place, also has a car park, although parking is free after 7.
If you head east from the O2 Academy there is a Lloyds No.1 which is a nice place and you can have a meal.Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.0 -
The Gate can be a bit rough, I wouldn't personally go there, athough it is a sight to behold
We like the salsa cafe, which is a lovely little tapas place, and Tillys, which is a pub with real ale, after. Both in sight of the o2Goal = £9,000 in 2011, starting in March

Also, the Gate is full of chains, unless you are after that kind of food. I must admit to not having been there very much, so I might be wrong. Tillys does pub food too, or there are plenty of lovely independent pubs in the area, and you are not too far from chinatown round there either. What type of food do you like?Goal = £9,000 in 2011, starting in March

Thanks for the suggestions. In the end we went to a little restaurant called Pinnochios which was just on Westgate Road, not far from the O2. It was pretty quiet at 8pm but by 9.30 had a lovely busy atmosphere with friendly staff. There were couples and families there so it was perfect for us and not too expensive either if you went for the pasta/pizza menus. I'd recommend it to anyone who has to "loiter around" waiting for a concert to end.0

Can I clarify that you mean near to the 02 academy in Newcastle? Can't help you if you mean the o2 in London!Goal = £9,000 in 2011, starting in March

It's too late for the OP but my absolutely favourite place in Newcastle upon Tyne is Luigi's in the Groat Market (just up from the Cathedral and down from the Bigg Market) . Wonderful Italian food and great happy hour deals, service excellent. The minestrone is sublime.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0
