Tax Rebate

Can someone help please, My wife has been working temporary since 2004 with different offices through work agencies, and emergency tax hasve always been taken from her inspite of her completing all the information that was requested, she wants to claim back the excess tax but one of the agencies she got one of the jobs from refused to give her a P60 or 45 and she has few payslips missing what can we do to claim back the excess tax paid without the complete documents.

First of all phone HMRC and go through the employment history for the period in question. They may be able to instigate the repayment claim without the need for your wife to send them anything if she can confirm the employment details held on the record. Even if the employer refused to send your wife a P45/P60, this is one thing they cannot refuse to send to HMRC in the formof the end of year details.

If she cannot confirm the details via the telephone they will ask her to write in.

If this is the case you should write in detailing the employment history (in date order and including any periods out of work/claiming JSA) and supplying what information you have.

If any information is missing refer to it in your letter and explain why (i.e. employer refused to issue) and HMRC will deal with it.

Also, if you have claimed JSA in any of the years in question it would be best if you contacted the jobcentre to request a letter confirming the taxable benefit received in each year in question, as this information does not always flow over onto the records. Send this in with your repayment claim.
