Does it always go Boom-bust-boom-bust.

I am not really old enough to have experienced a recession before, but my view on history seems to be that from every bust comes a boom.
I remember my parents talking about the one in the late 80's/90's, and the one before, but cant see another boom after this current recession.
will the trend continue?

As Sceptic Peg predicts, House prices this week will be going up!.............................or down.

Yes.
Boom follows bust follows boom, etc
And we just had the bust, so no prizes for guessing what comes next.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Can you take a consistent position? First you say house prices haven't dropped, now you say we had a bust.
Can you make up your mind?0 -
This isn't about house prices.
I learnt that boom always follows bust in my prestigious economics A level. So far it's true! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
The bust happened in 2008 - house prices crashed over 20%0

First you say house prices haven't dropped,

One single shred of evidence for where I've said UK house prices haven't dropped at all?
Oh yes, that's right, you can't because I haven't.....“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

you really see a boom in the future?
it feels too far gone this time and a long, long period of stagnant air staying.
but i have no experience of the last bust/recession.As Sceptic Peg predicts, House prices this week will be going up!.............................or down.0 -
Of course there will be another boom.
Just the overhang from the last one is so huge, it's going to take some time to fix.0 -
Sorry Hamish, but your posts over the last months and years have never previously indicated that you thought we'd had a bust.
I wouldn't call what we've had a bust either. So not sure how you expect the boom now.0 -
As an oldie I have seen several booms and busts.
Some of the busts of the past were a lot more unpleasant than the current one, and with much slower recoveries. Look at the unemployment and inflation levels of the late seventies/early eighties. During that period major industries collapsed with parts of the country facing mass unemployment. So I am somewhat amused by the "end of the world" views of so many of the contributors.0 -
i suppose the difference here is the interest rates. They are low enough to buffer the potential damage at the moment.
Would be interesting to see what happens if they start to rise?...As Sceptic Peg predicts, House prices this week will be going up!.............................or down.0
