Help re catalogue debt

Hi I am looking for some advice on behalf of my gran, my grandfather died a couple of months ago and as such her income has been reduced to £130 per week she has a catalogue debt of £1400 approx and has been given a number by someone which she said if she calls they will stop the interest on the account, obviously this would be a major help as at moment she pays £70 and half is interest. Does anyone know more about this she has very little info and wants me to call for her so I would just like to know exactly what it is and if she has any other options.
Thanks for any help you can give me

I'm not an expert and I hope someone comes up with some advice.I didn't know that catalogues charged interest,I thought it was an up front credit charge.
The company will only talk to you if she gives her permission so make sure that your grandmother is with you when you make the call. If you explain the situation and ask for reduced payments maybe they will come up with a plan.Mutual Supporters club member (Nov 2006)

I'm sure if you send them along a copy of the BD8 (Notification of death certificate) then you can get the account closed if the account was only in the name of your grandfather.0

Hi hobo 123.
You may get some good advice from Age Concern too. They offer advice and help on all sorts of issues. It won't harm to give them a ring. xOfficial DFW Nerd Club Member no:219In the Court Of The Crimson KingI don't believe in the concept of hell, but if I did I would think of it as filled with people who were cruel to animals.Gary Larson0 -
is the catalogue debt in your grandmothers name?
has your grandfather any assetts ..i.e. will your gran inherit any money?
its likely the company that contacted your gran was some sort of debt management company.... it may want upfront fees (if so dont touch it atall) ...can you google it or publish it here and someone may know about it.EU tariff on agricultual product 12.2%

Hi thanks to everyone for their advice, the debt is only in grans name and it hasn't gone to debt collection asshe is still managing to make the payments so far, her niece gave her a number and told her to call them (not the company directly) to get them to stop the interest as she can't afford it. I hadn't heard of anything like this before and she didn't take in too much info on it just curious if anyone else had any idea what she could possibly mean.
thanks again for help.0
