WH Smiths - 50% off Hardbacks Books Query

Now I did my research and found that whsmiths were offering the books I wanted cheaper than anywhere else.
I checked online and then went to the Shop.
First I noticed that on loads of different shelves they were marketed with advert saying up to 150hardback books up to half price off.
As I had checked online before I went the shop I knew the books I wanted were half price. In the shop I could not find them on the shelves for halfprice nor any indication on the books, they did have some 3pound off sticker but I presumed they were half price regardless of this.
I got to the Till & both books were charged at 15quid
Firstly
http://www.whsmith.co.uk/WHS/Go.asp?isbn=1844543021&DB=220&Menu=Books
Priced online at 10.79. (40% cheaper)
I paid 15.99 instore.
Secondly
http://www.whsmith.co.uk/WHS/Go.asp?isbn=184413427X&DB=220&Menu=Books
Priced online at 8.99(50%cheaper)
I paid 15.99 instore.
The reason I paid and didnt query was I had a 3rd book which I was checking if it fell into the half price catergory, she said it didnt so i chose not to purchase that, Online it is half price. Plus I was goin to see a Movie with an MSE Free Ticket
& only started to question it all as I was walking out
Can anyone work this out for me, its very misleading.
Or is it simply that if you buy them online from them they are half price and not instore

I'm not sure about WHSmiths but I bought a book in store at Waterstones at the weekend for £30, went online yesterday and on the Waterstones website it is £19.50... so I'll be returning that and buying it online. As it's over £15 I'll get free delivery...or I can even have it delivered to store... maybe I'll take the other one back when I go to collect it! :rotfl:
WHSmiths do "Collect at store" as well so get the offer from online and then collect them if it is easier than having them delivered.0 -
Yep im def taking the books back.
The books were cheap in waterstones instore compared to this 15quid ive paid but i remembered they were even cheaper in whsmiths.
I just dont understand it, its such a wide promotion on there book deal, why they would have different prices. I may ask them when I return em.0 -
I know, I think I've seen the adverts on tv, which means it should be available in store.
I would ask them, maybe print out the page from the internet to show them. Having a book online at a different price is fair enough (overheads and all that) but when it's advertised on tv, it's just wrong.
I've just reordered the book for £19.50, then found a book for £5.59 which took me over £25, then used a voucher I found on the vouchers board to give me £5 off... so 2 books for £20.09 and I'll be collecting them from store later in the week hopefully and I'll be returning the other book at the same time! I wonder what they'll say...

Hope that works... There's several on there. I just used the top one!
Oh and its Waterstones not WHSmiths. Might be similar prices, depends on what you're looking for.
Hope that helps.0 -
Why not order and pay for the books online at smiths and have them delivered into store. Also go through quidco. I just did that for an annual I wanted. Free delivery into chosen store.0

Asda do cheap books, usually £7.99 or £9.96 for a hardback and £3.99 for a paperback, of course they only tend to do the newer, more popular titles.

Books @ Whsmiths online are priced differently to books in their shops.
I agree with what someone else said - just order online at Whsmiths and have them delivered to your local store as it normally works out cheaper. Although saying that I did that last week with a Peter Kay book (£12.99 in store and £9.50 online) and low and behold they then drop the price instore to £9.49!
We've got 2 Waterstones in our town and one had Peter Kay's Sound of Laughter @ £11.99 and one had it at £13.99. Where's the logic there??0 -
Its madness. The online price is half the price of the Store which lead me to believe my books fell into the half price instore category.
Gonna take em back and ask em, they may give me a refund for the difference rather than be cashing them in and re-ordering,seems silly.0 -
WHSmith did have a half price offer on the top 30 books in store, but it was only Friday & Saturday. I got 3 in store but ordered some on line aswell as they were still cheaper there.0
