Hi there, I hope someone can help im getting desperate
I have searched numerous sites and this forum to no avail, perhaps one of you guys can shed some light
I have recently obtained my credit report via credit expert as advised on here (very good service i might add) and have seen a CCJ in my name from Northampton county court - I have since contacted them and found out it is a water bill that was unpaid at my previous address some time ago (just under 4 years ago)
I was previously made aware of this debt 3 times at which point I forwarded a copy of my tenancy agreement (on all 3 occasions) to Essex & Suffolk water with the tenancy agreement showing I was not responsible for the bills at the property only the rent itself
On each occasion the water company said this was fine and now 2/3 years have passed with me assuming it was all ok
My question is what do i do? I am trying to rent a place and build my credit but with this CCJ on my account I dont want to weigh out £300/£400 to an estate agent then find out ive failed my credit check and lose the money, can i get this removed? if so how? and any other advice would be greatly appreciated
My credit score is showing as 764 (fair) and i have no other credit cards/store card/loans or outstanding debts

Should help: How to set aside a judgment in the county court
Although, arguably, the company should get it removed at their expense if it is their mistake.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks Fermi, much appreciated - I'll look into that now
would you (or anyone else) think I would have a problem on credit checks with my credit rating and this ccj present? CR is 764 (Fair)
Note: When i say credit checks i mean estate agent credit check to rent a property in particular0 -
Hi BlapsDK,
With your comment regarding the Estate Agent, When I moved into my home currently rented I had two CCJ's and was in a major debt problem (Before I found here) I couldn't even get a mobile phone contract as my rating was considered poor.
I took references from my old landlord and bank statements showing I had not missed any rent payments and the Estate Agent agreed to use that instead of a credit check.
I know that I may have just been lucky and possibly not all Estate Agents would, but I doubt it would be a major issue.

I cant help you with the CCJ, but my credit score is very low, and I have no problem renting
they just ask me for references and once they asked me for a guarentour (sp?)

You'll probably be fine - I have no doubt that my credit is considerably worse than yours, and I've always managed to rent without any problems. My one rule has always been to make sure that my mortgage/rent and council tax has always been paid, in full and on time. Everything else, for my purposes at least, takes second place. Water, as the one bill you can't get cut off for not paying, is way down the list of priorities, with only the TV License below it, if the month is a bit tight.0

Like I said, My credit 'score' is 190. You cant get much lower than that, and I have never had a problem renting
mobile phone contracts on the other hand... haha
