Handmade Wedding Gift - Any ideas?

Hi there,

I have been invited to a wedding but instead of the usual gift I am looking to make something myself - make the present more personal and special. The only thing is I have never actually been invited to a wedding that hasn't been family so could do with some inspiration.

I am creative(which is obviously a bonus!)

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

What are the couple like? What are their interests/hobbies, have they been together a long time, are they old/young?

I think we need a bit more info to help out with some ideas.

Do they have a gift list that might give you some inspiration?

  • They are in their twenties, homely family orientated people, female is creative and loves handmade gifts as she appreciates how much work and thought has gone into them.

Down to earth with no frills type. Hope this info helps more.

If they have kids, a night's babysitting would be an amazing present!

Have a look on Etsy.com - it sells loads of handcrafted things, might give you some inspiration.

I'm a crafty person getting married very soon, but sadly don't have any crafty guests - wish I did have!

I would enjoy something decorative that was about family/home, like a picture or embroidery. Or something practical like a rug or blanket.... I wanted to make Mr & Mrs Pillow cases for a recent wedding, but didn't get the chance to. I think it would be fab for cushions too!

How about something like this, personalised with the area they are getting married in or honeymooning in (Or do both!)

When my sister got married I went to one of those paint your own pottery places and made her and her OH a teapot. What about something like that?

I made the loveheart map thing for my OH as a Xmas present, it looks ace and he was so chuffed. I bought the decoupage frame from Wilko's was a bargainous £3.00 IIRC. Other things I would like as wedding pressies (if any of my crafty mates are looking) would be a patchwork quilt, patchwork cushion covers - thinking 2 perhaps for on the bed. How about a canvas with a quotation painted on it, the options are endless......:j
