New Lease For A Fleece?

i have 2 gorgeous, extremely fluffy fleece full length robes. they have quite a few burn holes scattered about the robe, but are almost new and far too nice to throw away. i have considered trying to mend them somehow but a few of them are just over thumb size so too big to just stitch together. does anyone have any suggestions to either do some invisible type mending or some suggestions to turn them into some other useful item/s, am sure there are loads of mse ideas floating around?

    Have you considered applique?
  • Or cutting into squares or rectangles to make into quilts? or into soft toys ?
You could invisible mend them by using invisible nylon thread and sewing straight across so effectively the hole is now a little fold on the inside? always work for my kiddies favourite bed socks (they have hundreds but always want their fav's sewn lol) x

I'd go with applique - either cut out some butterflies or flowersfrom felt or use one fleece to repair the other.

My Mum turned a holey oversized fleece into a bedjacket - just by shortening the length & sleeves & removing the zip & collar (turning edges under for a neat finish...or you could use a satin binding). Great for sitting up in bed reading

Fleece is actually very easy to sew

Def go for the applique - they'll look really good and have a new lease of life. Fleece is so cosy a fabric, isn't it? Hard to believe it's made from recycled plastic bottles!!

  • I would look at if I could cut some fleece from inside the sleeves of the hem to patch up the holes. Alternatively, could you unpick the hem, cut some of it off and re-hem it slightly higher. Use the bit you cut off to them patch up the holes.

What are the burn holes from? Cigarettes? Or something else? Whatever...I just want to say that fleece is flammable and it's a really bad idea to be wearing it near a naked flame or ignition source, especially if it's fluffy. Fleece melts when burning and can fuse to your skin, which is a really horrible sort of burn. At the very least next time you buy a robe get one that's been treated to be flame resistant. Better still, don't wear it while doing whatever it is that's causing the holes!
