Authentic memorabilia dealers?

I'm thinking of buying my OH something signed by Valentino Rossi (MotoGP rider in case you're not sure who he is) for Christmas, as he's a huge fan and would never see it coming! I'm not looking for anything overly expensive, yet I'm disinclined to go anywhere near ebay for this kind of thing as forgeries are so rife there I'd end up spending money on something that's not even real (not very MSE!).

However, how do I go about finding a reputable dealer that I can be assured will have authentic stuff? I know most items come with certificates, but are these registered with some official body? If not, surely anyone could just knock one up at home?

I'm in the northern home counties area if anyone has any recommendations. If not, just some general advice would be most welcome.
