We get hundreds of annual payers, but after April 1st this year we will no longer take Council Tax payments in cash, so I assume that this will be the last year of counting £1000 worth of £2.00 coins, the old tenners that are no longer legal tender, and the bags of mixed coins that is the joy of working during the first week in April.
Luckily the nearest I get to payments are is debit and credit cards - don't even see cheques any more as they get taken out before they get to us. We have enough trouble getting people to pay monthly never mind annually.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
You'd have thought they would be grateful to have the cash, but then there's that problem of not being able to trust themselves to eke it out over the full 12 months.
Council tax is so high I don't think most of the population could afford to pay it all in one go.
They believe they are doing us a favour and it want surprise me if they start charging interest in the future like car insurance.0 -
If they actually collected the full amount then they could boast about things but apparently they are about £500,000,000 behind in collections. I think they should offer decent terms for full in advance payment, above their internal financing rates, and then add punitive interest to those who fail to pay or keep to the standard monthly schedule.0
