Is it legal

Hi
Is it alright for my old employer to ring my new employer and say bad things about me and even advise him to get rid of me?
Where do I stand legally in this case?
Please any help will be much appreciated.

But you would have to prove it and not through hearsay as conversations (unless recorded) can be denied

How do you know this has been done?
Why did you leave your previous job - could any of it be a truth of sorts?
  • Is it true?

What did the old employer actually say? And what is your version of the truth?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • I would seek legal advise. You are not allowed to give a bad reference. You can decide to not comment on a reference but nothing more. If he is slandering you then seek advise against him.

    Oh for heaven's sake!

This forum is being totally ruined by ignorant posts like this from people who clearly haven't got a clue!

For the X thousandth time, you can say anything you like in a reference PROVIDING IT IS TRUE AND NOT DELIBERATELY MISLEADING.
