Tip esp for caravan and motor home owners

Now is the time of year lots of us sort out the caravan or motorhome for winter. A tip for coping with damp...instead of buying moisture absorbers such as these:

I find a couple of bowls of salt placed in the van collects all the damp moisture for very little cost
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

  • Thanks VIVW. Just how big a bowl do you need. A normal cereal bowl size? Or bigger?
  • I used to leave the cereal bowls all round the van with salt in them :)

As Edinburgh lass says, cereal bowls are fine. Look at them regularly ie once a month at least and replace the salt ....it does get very damp/wet

another option is to collect those little bags of silica gel you get every time you buy new shoes, and pop them into drawers and cupboards

  • My caravan was left onsite over the winter so wasn't checked from October to March apart from a short visit over Christmas and New Year. If that is the case, up end all cushions and leave open all drawers and cupboards to allow any air to circulate along with the dishes of salt and you should be okay.
