Best way to get Notice of Coding changed

Am taking early voluntary retirement soon and will have to return company car and lose other benefits in kind. Thus my 2011/12 notice of coding will need to be revised so that i do not have too much PAYE deducted from my pension.
Wondered if it is possible to do this via e-mail with HMRC or do I have to write, or call them and presumably have to wait in "queue" until cal answered. Advice on best approach appreciated.

When I took early retirement I phoned HMRC.

A phone call will be the best method, since you can inform HMRC of the changes. Use the phone number on your P2 Coding Notice.

HMRC may ask you to complete a Pension Coding form - P161
(That is what they asked me to do)
Ignore the "State Pension" section of the form if you are not at state pension age.

You can download a copy of the form to save time : Download P161
or you may be able to give them the information during the phone call. (Have a look at the P161 form to prepare the info in advance of your call)

Thanks for that advice. Due to be receiving pension pack soon with documentation etc to complete and return. Maybe P161 will be in there? Will wait until I receive that pack and then give HMRC a call.

The P161 comes direct from HMRC .... once DWP advise them a State Pension is imminent.

If you have benefits in kind (company car etc) which are coded out then bear in mind you tend to be working in arrears with that. Unless you took care to advise HMRC as soon as the benefits were available. If they took the figures from the P11D then that tends to happen after the end of the tax year .... so you're always playing catch up.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
