Question for you..

In 1997 I had about 4 store cards (you guessed it, the arcadia group!!)
I had about £400 owing which over time grew to over £4,000 in charges/ interest, and got me 2 CCJ's. To this day, people are still chasing me over them every few months even though I have never once acknowledged the debts. I'm not worried about these feeble attempts to scare me out of money I no longer owe on statute barred debts, but I'm interested to know if the CCJ's (unpaid) will ever go away and not flag up on credit checks?

The only thing we know for sure, is that we know nothing

The defaults will go after 6years. The CCJs will stay on for 6years unless they get them reactivated.
But checking your credit report will update your address.
But debts with CCJs never become statute barred. After 6years from the date of the the CCJ the creditor would need to go back to court to reactivate the CCJ but the debt won't become SB.
For any debt that is SB, if you just write to them to say you know its SB and you don't intend to pay at that point they have to stop chasing you for repayment anyway.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
The reason I ask is because OH and I are looking to move soon and I want to know what's on my credit file before i allow an estate agent to do a credit check. I don't want to do a check if this will flag up where I live. I've been refused for a bank account in the last 2 years and I'm interested to know if this is because of an old CCJ, or because I'm not on the electoral roll. The only thing we know for sure, is that we know nothing0

You can anonymously check what CCJs you have at the registry trust online. It does cost 8quid per address you search.
That would at least tell you what CCJs you have and from what dates.
Not being on the electoral roll will impact on your ability to get any bank account, even a basic one that isn't subject to a credit check. Did you apply for a basic account or a regular one?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Yikes, so it may very well be the lack of electoral roll then!! Can't remember now, a normal one with an overdraft LOL.
What do you mean by "per address"? Can't you just do a check that shows you any default/ mark/ CCJ etc you ever had?The only thing we know for sure, is that we know nothing0 -
Not at the registry trust. Anyone can search that for any other persons CCJs etc. So to do it you search a name and an address (its not actually checking things like dates of birth or your credit file so it cannot show you every CCJ for anyone with the same name as you, you specifically search per address).
Obviously getting a copy of your credit file you only get that once and its links your addresses and so would tell you CCJs in your name for any address it has on your file.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
So will checking my credit file with say experian show up my address? For example will the address show up on my record for other people to see?The only thing we know for sure, is that we know nothing0
