James & Shells Debt Diary

Hi All,

We have given ourself a 4 year challenge to be totally debt free by nov 2010

Our debts at the moment our

Covered by payplan £14.000
Dorothy Perkins Acct £241.00
Argos Card £142.00
Wescot Debt £152.00

We aim to overpay these each month and claim back bank charges from Nationwide (in Payplan)

Aslo going to cancel all insurance on the accounts

We are moving house on the 1st December so money will be tight for a few weeks.

And its xmas but we have bought most of our presents from argos vouchers that we had.

Got a tax credit extra payment this week so that will finish off the xmas shopping.

I will post on here as much as i/we can and we would love to here any ideas or comments you have

  • You've certainly set yourselves a challenging target - good luck to you!

I would only cancel the credit card insurance if you're sure you won't be made redundant/be sick, so as to lose income, in the interim. The total 'premiums' will go down with the debt anyway and you can decide later when it's not worth contiuning.

  • The Insurance is on a loan that is in default and the fact that shell isnt working it is a waste of money.

Our figure is ambitious but we are going to claim the unfair charges back so it should help

  • Cant believe WHSMith's service,

I went to buy a book in the store and its £18 i looked on there internet site and it is £11.88 with free delivery to the store so i thought great i would order it.

Then i noticed that they dont take Visa Electron.

I rang up CS to enquire why and they said that the card was a risk to accept !!!!
and unfortunatly there was nothing they were going to do except advise me to spend the 18 in the shop.

    I am Gobsmackked

  • I think its bad that shops treat visa electron and solo as some srt of disease and they cant take it.

Have you joined Pigsback? There is a thread on the Freebies board which you might find useful as you can collect "piggy points" and exchange them for CD Wow Vouchers (free Xmas/birthday pressies)
