Timberland boots...

Hi. I have a really nice pair of light tan Timberland boots, but they are now so grubby it is embarassing! Does anyone have any top-tips for cleaning them? I did buy a spray on suede cleaner, but it was a complete waste of money. I actually think the tin was full of fresh air as it made no difference at all! Thanks.

I assume these are the boots with a suede type finish?
couple of things to try
try sprinkling them with a powder such us bicarbonate of soda - leave for a few hours, then brush off the powder with a stiff wire suede brush. My aunt used to use talcum powder on her suede shoes and it used to lighten any marks.
you could also try using a sponge dipped in a week solution of carpet/upholstery cleaner and squeezing it out almost dry and gently sponging over the marks then over the whole boot. leave to dry and give it a brush with the suede brush.
mind you, if the marks are just mud then using the brush alone should shift them - but you do need to be very gentle with the brush or you will have bald boots!0 -
My two girls had Caterpillar boots when they were all the rage about ten years ago, so I am thinking they were the same as your Timby ones. The stuff I used was a weak solution of 1001 carpet cleaner put on with a damp sponge in light circular movements, then I used a towel to dry the surface of it - possibly try it on the tongue of the boots first to see if it works, did also use vanish carpet cleaner but it wasnt so successful!Every days a School day!0

Following on from this
I have a pair of Clarks red nubuck (?) shoes that are black on the toe of the left shoe. Do you think that carpet cleaner would shift this? 0 -
I have a pair of pink Timberlands that I've had for quite a few years and they where looking terrible. I tried everything and decided I probably couldn't make them look any worse so I put them in a couple of pillow cushions and chucked them in the washing machine with an old towel on a cool wash - a bit extreme I know ! They actually came out really well !
I wouldn't suggest trying it unless yours are really REALLY mucky just incase they get damaged

Years ago in a "kill or cure" move, I cleaned my Timberland boots using a nail brush and soapy water (washing up liquid). Perfect results!0

I'm so glad I noticed this thread! I've got some Timberlands too and when I bought them I was really surprised that there were no cleaning instructions with them. They are waterproof, so perhaps the manufactures think the dirt will just slide off them?0

cleaning suede should have loads of ideas. There is also an older thread asking the same question, it has an idea in it too

Ill merge this later on
