Hi, need some advice please
I has a talk talk account (telephone and broadband) until november last year when I switched to another provider.
When I called talktalk to cancel, I requested a final bill and cancelled my direct debit via my bank.
I've never received a final bill but have now received a letter from a debt collection company requesting the amount owed.
I called talktalk and again requested a final bill. They said they would send me one but all I got was an email referring me to my online account which I must have set up we I joined several years ok.
I can see the last bill now but they have added a £10 direct debit rejection fee even though I had cancelled my direct debit.
The debt collection agency have added a £30 fee on top of this.
I have spoken to them and said I've no problem paying the the final bill minus their fee and dd charge to talk talk but they say they will still chase me for the full amount.
Is this legal? Any suggestions as to what I do? Should I send a cheque to talktalk for the amount that I consider I owe with a covering letter?
many thanks for any suggestions

If it was me I would ring Talk talk and offer to pay the amount due, ignore the debt collectors fullstop and there will be no extra charge.0

Talk talk have recently received a whole load of bad press about how they deal with customers, complaints and cold calling. Only pay the bill as BigCraigJohn says.[STRIKE]£2200[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£1950[/STRIKE][STRIKE]£1850[/STRIKE] £1600 on my credit card

Not surprised about their cusomer service complaints.
Just been on the phone (for over 25 minutes) and they will only accept payment of the full outstanding bill. They refuse to remove the direct debit rejection charge.
I've refused to pay this even though it's only a tenner for the moment as I did inform them when I cancelled the account that I was going to cancel the direct debit as I was swapping bank accounts and that when the final bill was received I would pay by card.
I'm going to fire off an email to customerservices@talktalk.co.uk about their stand and level of customer service. Seems silly that they are not willing to remove the charge as they would then get their payment and they certainly won't be getting any further business from me.0 -
You might want to mention that they've been criticised a lot in the press (daily mail had 2 peices on them in a matter of days and I think watchdog might have done something as well)[STRIKE]£2200[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£1950[/STRIKE][STRIKE]£1850[/STRIKE] £1600 on my credit card

They are generally cack however check this.
Rang them weds 8pm with fault on the line, 9.30am had an engineer ring see if he could come and all fixed by 11.
However getting through to them is a pain, got to 15 mins and hung up.0 -
Just ring 0800 5428 073 it's the 'hotline' number for all TalkTalk extortion issues at the moment. Make sure they don't re-open your Dierct-Debit...tell your band to treat it as fraud!0

Just an update to this
I spoke to TalkTalk - offered to pay them for the services they supplied minus the failed direct debit charged.
Was put on hold for ages, passed to different people to be eventually to be told no. They want the full amount.
the phone bill must have cost me at least a tenner, and they refused to call me back...
Anyways I've written to their head office enclosing a cheque for the services and the reason why I am disputing the bill. I still haven't had a response.
Roxburghe were advised that I had placed the account into dispute.
Meanwhile Roxburghe have now got their 'solicitor' Michael Sobell (trading under the name Graham White Solicitors) to write to me demanding full payment, including their charges. The usual threats were in there.
A quick google search has shown that Sobell and Roxburghe share the same office. There are allegations that Sobell is dodgy but I won't comment on that.
So, rightly or wrongly I fired a letter addressed to Sobell advising that the account was in dispute and I had written to TalkTalk and sent them payment for the actual services they had supplied me with.
Today I receive another threatening letter, a notice of litigation no less' demanding full payment within 7 days. No mention of my letter to him re the dispute.
I've had to calm myself down as my initial reaction was to call him (i'm in the mood for a barny)
So now I've counted to 10. I'm unsure whether to respond to this letter or just ignore? Should I call and have a slanging match - might help get rid of this bult up anger :mad:0
