What is an Affidavit?!

Hello everyone apologies if this is not in the correct place :o

As said above I am just wondering what an Affidavit Fee is?

I have a mortgage with Northern Rock/ NRAM(?????) in which I am several months in arrears, (some people may remember I have posted previously regarding being repossesed and a possible Mortgage Rescue)

ANyway to cut a long story short, the MR fell through and we were given another chance as long as we agreed to pay an extra £50 a month towards the arrears as well as the full payment.

This was made easier my NRAM by agreeing to weekly payments and my partner taking a promotion and extra shifts at work and cutting back etc etc...

So is it really necessary for the Mortgage company to charge a £30 Affidavit Fee as well as the £25 Arrears fee?

Seems completley pointless as we're only paying the minimum interest at the moment and a month down the line we're still getting deeper and deeper into arrears :(

Just looked up Affidavit fee on Google and this is what I found. Could it be the agreement they set up in court for payments..?

Affidavit swear fee
Charged when a mortgage lender is required to swear an affidavit (written legal statement) to a solicitor in connection with mortgage arrears.Affidavit swear fee

Thanks in advance

might be worth asking on the mortgage board as well to see if this fee was really necessary?

Hi thanks for your reply :)

I have just got off the phone to them now and they have assured me that as long as I stick to my new arrangment of weekly payments then the arrears charges will stop :T

And as for the Affidavit Fee's... they were just two one off payments for the securement of arrangments that were made in court... or something haha :p

Anyway thanks for looking I feel much better now my first payment is done and I've even set up a standing order so I have no excuse

...just little steps but feel so much better :o
