Dear all
I am looking for some advice.
My son has received a couple of Scholarship offers from Universities in the US. These schloarships do not cover the complete costs of the education however.
Does anyone know of any organisations or institutions that provide student loans for UK residents who want to study in the US?
Thank you in advance.

I suggest you contact the Fulbright Commission in London. They deal with UK / US education. If possible, visit their information room.0

Also go to your local reference library and spend an afternoon (or rather tell your son to spend an afternoon) working your way through the Educational Grants Directory and any similar volumes they may have. Ask them also what databases they have access to on the subject of grants and funding and if they have any local information. There are loads of grant-making bodies out there some with fairly narrow restrictions on how they can give their money - eg to students born in in the borough of XXX applying to study YYY. Some people fund years of higher education by some hard work in sending off applications - if you don't ask, you don't get!
And congratulations to your son! He must be a bright lad.0 -
What about living costs etc?
Im guessing its a sports scholarship. These are ten a penny and often only partial. Your son going to america will cost you/him thousands. Be very aware of this and at the end its likely to be a life experience with little in the way of tangible benefit career wise.0 -
I studied in the USA from 2000-2004 and received a music and rugby scholarship. I received a student loan from a US company with an american guarentor. I also received a professional studies loan with HSBC in the UK. This was for a substantial amount which is now almost paid off. I would recommend it. They did need to see transcripts of grades from the University and proof of attendance and scholarship though.
Hope this helps.0
