Withdrawing from my pension?

Hi all,
I'm not very bright when it comes to finance related issues, but here goes.
I have just resigned from my job. What happens to the pension that my employer and I have been contributing to? I believe I have accumulated a nice amount and wondered if I can get access to it.
I currently owe about £2k on a credit card. Could I use money from the pension to clear this whilst keeping the remainder in the pension?
Many thanks for any advice.
Cheers

No, unless you are 55 or over you cannot, a pension is for your retirement, its not a savings account.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

You wont be when you retire. Which is after all what pensions are for. Hence why they are called pensions.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
