For the same screen size, yes. An example of declared typical power consumption is below.fender wrote:Does a TFT monitor use less power than a CRT monitor?
Dell 17” LCD (1707FP) ... 32W
Dell 17” CRT (E773c) ..... 68W
Dell 24” LCD (2407WP) .. 57W
The same goes for TVs.fender wrote:Does an LCD TV use less than a CRT television?古池や蛙飛込む水の音0 -
As Alfie has already said a TFT screen does use less power than a CRT screen.
In fact studies have shown that for say a 15" TFT the extra energy saving you make on a TFT screen versus a similar CRT screen means you can pay off the total cost of the purchase price of a TFT screen in approximately 4-5 years just on its energy saving alone.

Whilst the LCD display itself on a TV presumably uses less power than a CRT TV display(as they certainly do on PC monitors) it would be a mistake to assume that all LCD TV's use less power than older CRT TVs.
My 6/7 year old 32" Sony uses 122 watts and 28" Panasonic 81 watts. My newish 32" HD ready LCD TV uses 160 watts.
Plasma TVs use a lot of power 400-500 watts is not unusual.0 -
If your thinking of upgrading to TFT to save energy and do the Earth a favour don't forget about all the kWh needed and CO2 produced during its manufacture, marketing & distribution. Not to mention your old crt which may end up in landfill. It takes a tough man to make a tender Chicken :A0
