Tax Refund

Just received one of those much wished-for emails saying I am eligible for a tax refund following the return I submitted in January. :j

However I am wary of scams and want to be sure that the email is what it says it is. The email has a HM Revenue & Customs header and is from "no-reply@hmrc.gov.uk".

It DOES ask me to follow a link and enter my details, and having had one of these rebates in the distant past, I would have expected that the credit would appear in my account automatically as they already have my details.

However the link looks legit from hovering over it: it goes through to an HMRC page.

Is this what it claims to be or should I hold back on the champagne for now?

    It is a scam.
H.M. Revenue & customs always send these details to you by post.
DO NOT give them your details.

You're right - after posting I just found this after googling the email address. What a blow!

This is a particularly cruel scam - it came through around the time you'd expect a refund if you were getting one and was for a believable amount, too.

    People suck :(

If it wasn't believable - no one would fall for them?

HMRC don't Email ....... nor do they request Email addresses, so how would they have yours?
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
