Hamilton and Locke

Thank you all so much. I maybe needing the service of payplan myself too if I don't get a job soon. I'm just surviving off earning money from my ebay business, but it's only small time and I'm down £700 a month from my day job. Luckily I have a husband who works but between us we don't half pay a lot of money out for our stupid mistakes.
I suppose it takes my mind off my own problems when helping someone else.
Hamilton and Locke don't take on debt for secured loans, so she has only put her credit cards on board with them totalling about £10,000 or less.0 -
It's never too soon to start getting a handle on your debts binnie!
If your friend sees that you are sorting out your debts, maybe she will get a bit of inspiration too?"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -

Payplan are a company but do not charge for DMPs.
Some people consider that their allowances are less generous than CCCS or CAB.
I would suggest your friend talks to one of the debt charities first.
She can always join Payplan if she wants but get advice from several people. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
So we need to ring CCCS first? I thought they were a same sort of company to Pay Plan??
I'm getting confused.
I think I can sort other peoples lives out better than my own and me and hubbie carry on paying the mortage, loans, credit cards etc until we can't no longer. I feel to proud to go to a DMP for help.
Only, when and if we can't pay, we will then seek advice for ourselves. But we are paying everything up to now as we only have 5 years left to be mortgage free and don't want to default on anything if we can.
I'm just hoping a job will come up for me very soon.0 -
Hi
this is the link to people Martin recommends
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2077631
they are all debt charities, although some get their funds donated by banks and credit companies.
Payplan is a debt managment company. Which maybe why Martin does not recommend them (there are other companies offering free advice which are really lead-providers for fee-charging companies).
I would suggest your friend gets advice from a charity first. It may be that given how litle her income is that she should not be paying anything more than a token payment.
it may also be that the companies chasing her are NOT entitled to the all the money because of fees, insurance, missing or incorrect documents.
Your friend copuld spend lots of money getting help, or could get free support on here and a bit of specialist advice from a debt charitiy when it is needed. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I thought Pay Plan were a charity?0

I see. But they don't charge any fees do they? So how do they operate? Sorry for all the questions.0

Hi Binnie
Payplan are often referred to as a charity. We are not a charity and do not have charity status. We offer debt advice and debt management plans that are all free to our clients.
Thanks

So if my friend wants to come on board with you, will all the money she pays each month go to the creditors, and you or them don't take a cut?
I have gathered some of her info together and was going to ring you, but I don't suppose you would speak to me initially would you just for advice for her?0
