Finally a bit of good news!!

Well after almost 3 years and countless phone calls, Halifax have finally closed my account yay.
OK so here's the back story, September 2008 we switch bank accounts to alliance and leicester (so we could get the £100 sign up reward), I bring my Halifax account to a zero balance and tell them over the phone I want to close the account, but was told by the guy on the other end that it wasn't possible to close the account over the phone. His attitude stunk and he told me I would have to go to my local branch to close the account. At this time in my life I had 3 children under the age of 4 and was suffering with postnatal depression and my local branch was over an hour away by bus. So I told him to treat the account like it was closed and to not let any more money come out of the account.
After about a week his attitude to me was really riling me up and so I rang back to complain about him and was told that there would be no reason why I couldn't close my account...however there were now some charges that were to be put onto my account 3x£35 and I would have to clear those before I could close the account I refused because they were not going to be applied to my account when I originally called to close the account, however I couldn't get anywhere with any of them.
And so after a debt collection agency got in touch with us to tell us that the account needed to be paid in full to the tune of now £683.56 I refused to accept it and finally they threatened us with court, I was like YES finally someone will be able to see that we are not liable for this!! And so I contacted Halifax yesterday to get the evidence that I called them asking for my account to be closed etc. and told them all the info I had, and anyway they got back to me today to tell me they would pay off the debt and my account with them would be closed. And they would also remove anything on my credit file with regards to it.

Glad to hear you got it sorted in the end
Banks just have no moral nowadays - everything they do seems to be ripping their customers off so they get a big fat bonus. This is only a personal opinion.0 -
And have just received a phone call from them....they are also giving me a cheque for £52. We can now afford a gift for my daughters 3rd birthdayLBM apr 2008,£94,761  Mad Ebay challenge #71 £2000/£106.62DFD [STRIKE]DECEMBER 2024[/STRIKE] OCTOBER 20130

I had a similar thing with the Co-op bank a few years ago. I had to have a couple of tantrums on the phone but they eventually closed the account after removing all of the incorrect charges. I still get a statement every few months with an amount of £0.00p and the words.."Closing balance" :rotfl:
Well done you! :T"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0
