    Hi,
You can, but only if your baby has a special condition like eczema or chicken pox (or the like).
They don't give out prescritions for calpol for general use like teething etc. Asda, Boots and Tesco do own brand calpol/calprofen which is just as nice (apparently) and cheap.
    Cheers,

  • When our girls got their 1st jabs the Doctor gave me a prescription for a bottle of paracetamol, same thing as Calpol just not a brand name, rather the Chemist's version of it. It doesn't taste as sweet but does the same thing. We only got it though because the girls were getting their jabs.

For E45 as BatCat says you'll only get it on prescription if you baby has a skin condition.

It all depends in your surgery I got E45 on script last week . A lot of them are cutting back and making patients purchase a lot of the cheap stuff like paracetamal themselves. Can't hurt to ask though!

I totally agree with tara 747.

The paracetamol company will charge the NHS and enormous amount of money for a pack of paracetamol
Getting it on prescription is a total waste of taxpayers money when you can get it for 16p to buy it yourself.

No one can be that hard up.............
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Not for baby Paracetamol...this is Adult Paracetamol in tablet format.

Agree though that people should buy general Paracetamol liquid for kids over the counter.

As said before, the OP was asking about baby items on prescription. A bottle of Calpol in Boots is around £5 which is a tad more expensive you'll agree than a pack of 16 tablets in Tesco for adults.

The only time I've been given paracetamol on prescription is when DS had his injections. He was also given a script for Aqueous cream after he was born but not e45.

There are 'some' items that you can get over the counter on prescription in the likes of Boots but I'm not sure of the details. This may not apply to stuff for kids but it could be worth asking next time you're in.

Oh and thank you for this thread - must remember to get more Calpol today. Whoever invented it deserves a medal when it comes to soothing a teething child :T

Our GP is throwing that stuff at us. Every time we have to go in for something he will ask if we still have enough and will prescribe a bottle.

Same with other stuff, like the dehydration powders, cremes, etc...

boots and tesco both do there own versions of calpol which are about £1.50 altho they are tiny bottles compared to the one the dr gives us, i have bought these before as it seems silly phoning the dr for a script for calpol
