Hope someone can help me, I have a Vauxhall Tigra on a 06 plate, I still owe £4k on the finance but I now have another car that I use for work so I am still paying the monthly finance, insurance etc for the Tigra and I dont use it . I want to sell the Tigra but want to sell it privately to get what it is worth as I know a dealer will not give me a fair price but not sure how to do this or whether to get a personal loan to pay the finance off ...... someone please give me some advice!:o

Dead easy. I assume it is on HP.

FIrst things first, get a settlement figure so you know how much you owe.

Then go down the vauxhall garage and see what they would offer you on it.

Hopefully, it is worth more than you owe?

Then you need to advertise it - Autotrader is always good, but put something on it about no canvassers, otherwise you'll get a call from a company promising they will sell the car for you dead quick, but you need to pay them £100 first. Guess what, you pay up and they don't sell the car!

Ebay can also be good for selling cars, so you may want to pop it on there. Just set a reserve on it.

If you get a viewing, don't let them drive it - they will probably not be insured - so if they are dead keen to, make sure they prove they are insured FULLY COMP to drive your car - ring there insurance co if you have to. If it is not and they crash it, you lose out. But by all means take then out for a drive in it. Never let them take the car on their own. Never leave them in the car with the keys and you not in the car.

When you have found a buyer, ask them to pay the finance house directly - for the full amount. That way they know the car is finance free, and then the finance house will send any srplus on to you.

    WHo is it with?
ANd don't accept cash, let them pay it into your account if they insist. if they pay by Chq, then get it made to the finance company.

If you do sell it to a garage, then make sure you a copy of the bank transfer, it has been known for the garage to wait a few days to settle finance, and as you would cancel your DD, you miss a payment.
  • It was originally taken out with GE but then Santander took them over and the complete agreement changed to Santander
