I owe tax, I don't like it, but I accept it.

I owe £2300. Paying this back would be a problem at the minute as I am in the process of buying a house.

I have tried and tried and tried to speak to someone at the tax office, and left my number to allow them to call me, and they havent. I keep trying to call up, but get cut off saying that they are very busy, and please call at some other time. The other time appears to be when I am at work, and, when I'm at work, I am doing a job, I dont have time to call the tax office.

What I wnt to do is spread the tax over the next 12 or 24 months, but no one can give me an answer, or tell me how to do this, as the best that I have managed is to speak to someone who "will take a message and get them to call me".

Can someone pelase give me a plan of attack, as I'm sure that if I put a toe wrong, I'll be fined massively, where as wehen they made a C0ck up I have to pay for it....

Ideally, I'd like to send a cheque off for £400, and then pay the rest off over 24 months, out of my tax code

Please help, and apologies for the ranty nature of this, I am nrmally quite a calm person

Try 'phoning them early morning - it's allegedly less busy?

If the amount is over £2k then they won't normally code it out .... and paying an amount on account to reduce the balance below £2k won't change that - I'm afraid. Partially depends which year(s) it is - but they will normally be amenable to a payment plan over 2 years.

Our Tax office opens on a Saturday until 4pm. After several attempts to get answered during the week and Sat am, we finally got thru by calling at 3.30. We were then on hold for 20mins but did get sorted.
