    As Said

    No real ideas apart from

1, This is theft, so report to police, police will get to see CCTV

2, Report the issue to the bank concerned along with time etc, and hope this guy put his card in the machine (Can trace him through)

Ahhh, bless you, I have no advice to give but I wanted to say how sorry I feel for you, its the kind of daft thing my lad would do! But go to the police, this is theft pure and simple x

I went to ask the bus station attendants for help but as soon as I mentioned cash machine they immediately retorted with rehearsed lines about it not being their problem. I will try again tonight though.
I'm not generally a judgemental person but the person who was behind me in the queue did look like the kind of person who wouldn't think twice about stealing, but I even asked him to his face and he assured me that he hadn't. I've been on the phone to the bank for at least 2 hours today (Halifax) and they've effectively just tarred me with the fraudster's brush.

I now have £189.31 left for the rest of the month, and still have 2 birthday presents and a bus pass to pay for!

So rather than going back to the bus station go to the police

There was a story recently released by the police and mention it to them,

Old woman lost cash, and cctv showed someone picking it up, police released pictures to media as this is theft (Law)

I hadn't thought of that! He DEFINITELY did put his card in the machine because it was telling him he had taken too long with his transaction when I confronted him!

That could prove helpful. But I contacted the bank who own the cash machine (Not my bank) and as soon as I gave them my sort code they told me I wasn't one of their customers and had to speak to my own provider.

Thank you all for your responses!

    Regards,
    Ryan

In the UK you can be charged with a crime just by finding money on the street. It's called Theft by Finding

I'm going to go back to the bus station, as I pass through it on my way home and ask if there's any way I can look at the CCTV, or if they can.
If they say no, or if they don't look like they're going to investigate it further I'll involve the police. But police scare me! :-(

Go to the police. The longer you leave it the less likely they are to find the guy. Just stop at the police station on the way home and speak to them. Whenever I've had dealings with them they have been very helpful and nice about things even when I felt like a complete muppet.

sometimes ryan life kicks you in the nadgers, but as long as you learn from it thats the main thing.
I lost a £10 note once out of my pocket. 6 months later I found a £20 so all was well again.
