How long before I need a mortgage should I arrange one?

I am due to move into a new build flat in June.
I need to get a mortgage arranged, but when should I start doing this?

Obviously I don't want to wait until the last minute, but I also don't want to get days off to go and try and get a mortgage to be told it is too early.
