I'm looking to upgrade my running shoes as I'm getting a bit more serious about it, but don't want to pay top price!
I'll be getting my pronation checked and checking out a few brands, but then wondered if anyone had experience of where was cheapest to buy online?
Thanks in advance :j

hi, i was after running shoes a couple of months ago. after doing alot of searching i found this website
http://startfitness.co.uk/
i brought my asics from here. they only cost me around £30.00 in the end with the discount codes and got free pair of running socks too. although they were in the sale which is why i got them quite cheap. they are so comfortable. if you are not in a hurry to buy them, keep checking the site for promotions and discounts.
hope it helps0 -

I'd also recommend Start Fitness, other sites are Sports Direct, M&Mdirect, Runners World, Wiggle ..etc but Start Fitness beat these price wise easily.
Otherwise try Ebay but look through the shops on there as they tend to out-do their online stocks by a few pounds.0 -
Try:

I think good running shoes are generally quite pricey though. I have had Brookes for years and can recommend them.Started comping February 2012
Wins so far:
Mascara, dry shampoo, chocolates, Loreal Elvive goody bag.Pot noodle fork , maggi mix, couscous,0 -
You need to make sure you get the right spec shoe for you. The type you get will be dictated by your weight and your running style. If you do overpronate, you will need motion-control shoes; if you're quite heavy you will need well cushioned ones. You seem to be going the correct route by getting your running style analysed first. It can be a false economy to buy the cheapest you can find, you need to find the right shoe then shop around for it at the best price - just put it in a search engine and you should get a load of prices.
If you start to run more, any biomechanical faults will be magnified and the correct shoes will be essential to minimise the potential for injury. If you're intending to go off-road a lot, look at trail shoes with a good grip. The best place to buy is a good running shop with staff who know what they're talking about, but if you do go online, I also have found startfitness to be very competitive.0 -
Buy last seasons running shoes. Quite often there are no differences other than the colour and the price.
There are a lot of arguments over whether running shoes and gait analysis are important as shoe companies tell you and whether it helps you or even hinders you. Read about barefoot running if it interests you.
If you are a forefoot striker, whether you buy in to the hype about your gait or not just buy whatever is comfortable as it doesn't matter too much.
Go in to a shoe shop, try on all their shoes, find the model you like and buy it online for much cheaper.
Don't always believe what the people in the running stores tell you about your gait, they are minimum wage workers, not biomedical scientists.0 -
hi o/h is serious about his running and always uses start fitness or sports shoes.com and finds comparing prices between the two is where he gets the best bargains (he's doing the london marathon this year again!!!)skintbint x

I wear Brookes Adrenaline and have done for a number of years. I had gait analysis a few times and always ended up in the same style so now buy them online. I got 2 pairs recently - a standard and a trail pair - for £25 each on MandM, which is a saving of £60 on the trail ones! Worth a look once you have found a shoe that suits you.0

Yep, would endorse Start Fitness - we often buy a few discounted pairs at a time (particularly since the runners in our house tend to rotate several pairs of footwear at a time as an injury prevention measure). Can often get previous seasons models at a very good discount (e.g. 50% off RRP), so we keep an eye on the website at regular intervals.0

Thanks everyone - I had a bit of a struggle getting pairs in my size (11) which met what I was looking for, but popped in to JJB and they had 20 percent off, so got a pair for £42. I was happy enough with that
I will certainly be keeping this thread in my favourites though, as I've learnt my lesson and won't be running my trainers into the ground again (literally and figuratively)
Thanks again everyone!Doing my best as a contrarian investor...property, banking...let's see how it goes0
