I used Food Bargains for the first time in Nov 2011 after reading about the on MoneySavingExpert. The parcel took ages to come, was damaged so badly that many of the contents were crushed and unusable, and they made inapproproate substitutions and also missed off several items, yet charged me for the whole lot. I phoned them and they were very polite about it but blamed it on casual packing staff and their couriers. Then they came and collected the inappropriate substitutions and promised me a refund and a discount on my next order. 9 months later I still don't have my refund of almost £30, and the cheats have even had the audacity to return my "Notice of Legal Action" letter (sent Royal Mail signed for) by simply marking it "Gone Away" - yet it was sent to the very same address they still advertise on their website for service. They won't answer the phone but still send me advertising emails so I know they are still trading. They seem to think that something as simple as refusing a piece of mail will put me off! As far as I am concerned this has become a matter of principle - consumer versus cheating trader - and they can either refund my money now or make this process as expensive as they want to: If they continue to ignore me and lie about their whereabouts I will simply employ a solicitor local to them to hand deliver a letter to them - and add these costs to the court proceedings I intend to make. They don't seem to realise that a legal letter delivered is considered served, whether they choose to open it or not. Fools!
By the way, I also tried out Approved Foods at the same time last November and have ordered several times from them since. They have been great - fast delivery, accurate packing, correct billing.
Do yourself a favour, AVOID BUYING FROM FOOD BARGAINS - THEY ARE TRYING TO SCREW ME OVER. Try Approved Foods instead.0 -
By the way - just a thought... before I go searching and spend money on a solicitor to serve notice on them is there a fellow MoneySavingExpert member who lives anywhere near their premises, address quoted on their website:
Bradford Road
Batley
West Yorkshire
WF17 8LN
who would be prepared to do one or both of the following: 1. double check they are indeed trading from this address and 2. hand deliver a letter to them from me? I'm down in the South of England so it's too far for me to do this in person. But I don't want to let these guys get away with it!If they continue to ignore me and lie about their whereabouts I will simply employ a solicitor local to them to hand deliver a letter to them - and add these costs to the court proceedings I intend to make. Well I think they are trying - at last.
I posted this original complaint this morning. This afternoon I received a phone call from one of the Warehouse Managers at Food Bargains saying he had been asked by management to look into my complaint and get it sorted out. He has taken all my details and promised to resolve the matter today and authorise a refund, and says he will call me back before the end of the day...
Watch this space as I will report back and advise whether they have made good on their promise.
Funny that should happen today after keeping me waiting 9 months... and thanks MoneySavingExpert for hosting a forum that companies pay attention to.:TI used Food Bargains for the first time in Nov 2011 after reading about the on MoneySavingExpert. I have used Food Bargains many times and have got some of my best bargains from them. However, I was owed £6 and it took a lot of chasing up (like you say it's a matter of principle). They are very polite on the phone, when they phone you, but should you need a refund, near impossible. I am in two minds as to whether I will shop with them again. Must say, not had trouble with packing etc.0

I have not had any serious problems with Food Bargains but most of the products you find on there are on Af0 -
Well they did what they said and made my refund before the end of the day today and emailed me a code for free delivery for my next order.
OK, this whole matter shouldn't have taken as long to sort out as it did - but I'm prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt, as when the management saw what was going on they got it sorted straight away. Let's hope they've learned from this to be a bit more diligent about reading customer emails and responding to phone messages better in future.:beer:Well I think they are trying - at last.
