mortgage mistake

Options
Hi
my wife and I had a mortgage with bristol&west. last year we had some money and wanted to pay off the mortgage. We asked bristol and west for a statement and we paid off what they said was outstanding.
however, now they are saying that they made a mistake and want to recoup the outstanding.
are they able to do that?
what are my rights?

are they able to do that?

    Yes
    what are my rights?

None. If the money is correctly owed then you have to pay it.

I would ask them for a breakdown of how they arrived at this amount.
